About me

My name is Melanie Haupt and I have been an educator for more than 20 years. I earned my Master’s in English Literature from the University of Colorado, Boulder and my PhD in English at the University of Texas at Austin, where I taught literature and rhetoric and writing for eight years. After a stint teaching high school and middle school English Language Arts, I am now a professor of writing and rhetoric in Austin, Texas.

I started working as an essay coach in 2021 and discovered that I love working with high school juniors and seniors as they embark on their search for the perfect college for them.

Best for: Seniors who are behind or want to crack the application process in a short window. Four-day intensive, usually held in August or September.

• Personal statement workshop: Moving from a blank page to a final draft.
• Activity list audit: Maximizing the effect of extracurricular descriptions.
• Materials management: Getting paperwork in place
• Project management: Setting deadlines

Feathering the Nest ($1200/year)

For families starting in 9th or 10th grade, quarterly check-ins on course selection, standardized testing preparation, and extracurriculars.

• An initial 90-minute holistic interview to find the hidden stories that grades don’t show, followed by initial brainstorming support.
• Three additional one-hour meetings focused on narrative flow, showing vs. telling, and final polish.

The Golden Yolks Supplemental Suite — $2400

• The Single Shell Polish package 
• Comprehensive brainstorming and drafting for every supplement for five colleges, with strategic mapping to find stories that can be adapted across multiple prompts to save the student time.
• Consistent, timely check-ins until applications are submitted.

The Full Hatchery Masterclass — $3500

• The Single Shell Polish package + Golden Yolks supplemental package + five supplementals
• The activities list, resume, and additional info
• Final Review: A holistic read-through of the entire Common App before you hit submit.
